I think the ambiguity surrounding the ending of Sopranos is far overplayed. The ending isn’t meant to be ambiguous, it’s intended to highlight the abrupt end Tony deserves; it isn’t cinematic, it’s final. Ambiguity may have been something David Chase played into, especially fresh after it ended, but by him also confirming Tony’s demise we know the ambiguity was nothing more than a gimmick. Granted, it may have been a distracting gimmick in 2007, but by now that has worn off totally and it leaves a clear, impactful, and quite frankly genius thematic ending. Boiling this ending down solely to unearned ambiguity is seriously doing it injustice
